| | | | At this month’s meeting, we are proud to welcome Mike Ursta, Technical Architect at Dell, to deliver a case study presentation that will feature a SharePoint 2010 custom Internet-facing web site solution for the Boy Scouts of America Summit Jamboree 2013, accessible at https://summit.scouting.org. Mike served as the technical lead for the design and implementation of this solution on the SharePoint 2010 platform. During this presentation, Mike will discuss how the SharePoint 2010 platform was leveraged to both share information and provide an interactive registration process for both Boy Scouts and volunteers who are interested in attending the 2013 National Scout Jamboree. The presentation will be supplemented by demos of the SharePoint functionality that was put in place, with examples that review the various development techniques and SharePoint environment strategies that comprised the overall solution, with the core focus highlighting how both SharePoint 2010 out of the box features and highly customized features were leveraged to deliver a rich SharePoint 2010 Internet site that provides event marketing information along with the event registration process. | |

| Did You Know? | Did you know that for SharePoint 2010, Microsoft has introduced a new method for development of custom web parts? Visual web parts, a new development artifact type that can be created in Visual Studio 2010, enable developers to finally leverage a visual design surface for building custom web parts. This new approach is similar to that offered in the past by the SmartPart that Jan Tielens developed, where a web user control (ASCX file) is leveraged in place of an ASP.NET server control. With SharePoint 2010, this approach can be taken without the need for a third-party add-on, and should enable more rapid development of custom web part solutions. |
